Ice Dragon's Omega:Frozen HeartBy: Canis Blackfang
Normal. What was normal? Why did I want things to go back to normal? It occurred to me then that I didn’t know why I was fighting the attraction so hard for. Maybe because it was something I’d never felt for anyone?
My boots crunched in the snow, and I walked briskly towards the lodge. Looking up I saw the sky was hazy with clouds, and I smelled a familiar crispness in the air. I wondered for a moment if it was going to snow soon, before my mind shot back to thoughts of him.
What was it about this guy that had set me off? I mean, sure he had a rare spark of fire behind those dark eyes of his, sure he was eager and ready for adventure. Sure, he had an ass that looked so tight it could make me come in seconds…
I shook my head. The guy was half my age for Christ’s sake.
But shit, maybe Trystal was right. Maybe I did need to get laid. Maybe I’d take some time off, go down from the mountain. Try to find someone in town.
Why not him?
I cursed at myself. I didn’t need to think about this right now. My lust for Levy was just a passing thing. I only started thinking about it because Trystal put that idea in my head. That’s it.
I looked at my watch as I reached the front door of the lodge. I was a little early. No problem, I would just go and grab a coffee from the dining room while I waited. I pushed open the door and went inside. The lobby was empty, a little sign next to the desk phone that said “Out until 9:00. Dial 01 if you need me.” The fireplace had a few glowing embers in it from the night before, so I went up and threw a couple new logs in.
His voice behind me sent a tingle of excitement down my spine, and I closed my eyes. Yeah, this wasn’t going to be easy.
“You’re up early,” I said, without turning around. I took the poker from the rack and prodded the embers, then lightly blew on them to stoke the flames back up. “Eager to get out there?”
“Been thinking about it all night.”
That got me to turn around. I couldn’t tell if that tone was flirtation or if I was just projecting my own desires onto things. I stood up and faced him, crossing my arms on my chest. Levy stood by the couches, one hand in his pocket, the other holding a mug of tea. His lips were pulled back into a slight smile, his hair damp from a morning shower. His eyes were clear and cool and inviting. Damn, he was good looking. Damn, I wanted to fuck him.
“Well, good,” I said. “I’m glad to hear that. I’m just going to grab a coffee and we’ll head out.” I walked by him towards the dining room, catching his scent as I passed. Something I hadn’t noticed yesterday stopped me. I sniffed the air, and turned around to look at him again. He looked back at me silently, leaning casually against the side of the couch. I wanted to bend him over across it and feel what it was like to enter him.
I walked back over to him, looking at him carefully.
“What is it?” he asked, suddenly looking self-conscious.
“Jesus,” I grunted. “Well that’s embarrassing.”
He looked at me with an curious expression, and I felt my face go red hot. I must be losing my mind in more ways than one. How did I make such a stupid mistake?
“You’re…a human,” I said flatly.
He started to laugh. “And you’re the first shifter who has ever thought otherwise.”
“Jesus,” I said again. I turned away and headed to the kitchen in an effort to hide just how embarrassed I was. “Don’t tell me that.”
He followed after me. “Do you always mistake humans for dragons, or…?”
“No, just you apparently.” I poured out a half a cup of coffee. This changed things. A lot. This hot omega dragon I’d been getting a hard on over was not an omega dragon at all. He was a human – still an omega, because all humans were omega to us dragons – but a human none the less. The guy was probably two hundred years my junior. And did humans even find shifters attractive? I felt like an idiot.
Drinking down my cup of joe, I set the mug onto the used dishes tray and then walked into the kitchen where Trystal kept the hiking lunches. I grabbed two packed lunches and put them in my bag, and then walked past Levy into the living room. He was human…but that hadn’t done a thing to quell the lust I felt. A dragon’s desire was a powerful thing, and I now I felt its full force, maybe for the first time ever.
“Well, we’d better get out there,” I said. “You have water?”
“Yeah. Three liters, is that enough?”
“That’s fine. Let's get going.”
Outside, the two of us headed away from the lodge across a snow covered trail that lead up the mountain. I hit a fork in the road, one way leading down an easier path that I usually brought people on, and the other down a much more difficult trail. Let’s see what you’ve got, Levy, I thought, and turned to take us down the hard path.
Almost immediately the trail turned uphill and became a never ending series of grueling switchbacks. Levy’s breath was heavy as he followed behind me, but he never made any complaints. The sounds of his panting exertion from behind me nearly gave me a hard on.
